Be Prepared To Work

Working from home may seem like you’re not working at all. However, you need to make sure you’re just as motivated to work as you would be in the office.

Treat your new home office as if it was your office at work. Be sure to report issues you have, ask for help when it’s needed, and stay focused.

Working from home may be a challenge at first, but you’ll soon get the hang of it.

Make Those You Live With Know You’re Working

To make working from home a success those you live with need to know when you’re working. Tell them your schedule, set a few ground rules. You still have deadlines even though you work from home.

Take Some Breaks

Take some breaks every day. Have a break:

  • At the same time you would have had a break in the office
  • When you feel like you need to stretch your legs
  • When you want another cup of coffee
  • When it’s time for some lunch

Move away from your desk so you’re not sat in front of it all day. When you spend a little time elsewhere you’ll feel like you’ve really had a break.

Stay Connected With Others

Working from home can be an isolating affair. However, it is possible to stay connected.

Talk to your colleagues via video chat or on the phone.

Meet up with people outside of work so you don’t feel isolated.

Run an errand so you get out of the house.

Do what you can to stay in touch with other people so you remain connected even when working from home.

Set Up A Work Schedule

Some people can pick their own schedules, others have a set schedule. Either way, it’s important that you have one.

When you have structure surrounding your working day you can get things done. You can be flexible about your schedule from time to time. However, deadlines need to be met.

Set up a work schedule that works for you and try to stick to it. When you do, you’re more likely to be motivated to get the work done.

Set Up A Space To Work

Having a dedicated space to work from can make all the difference. You could, for example, work from:

  • Your spare room
  • A corner of the bedroom
  • At your dinner table
  • In a dedicated area in your living room

When you have a place to work you’re more likely to feel as if you’re at work. This can help you to complete tasks more effectively.

Use these tips to help you to make working from home work for you.
